October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month — a good excuse to ask a question most practice owners put off:
If your systems went down Monday morning, who's actually fixing it?
Hiring a full-time IT person is out of reach for a lot of practices. That's the case for a managed provider: for roughly the cost of one in-house engineer, you get a whole team — help desk, security monitoring, and someone who understands what HIPAA expects of you.
Flat-rate pricing. No surprise invoices.

We're proud to share that our Founder, and CEO, Janice Mahlmann, is featured in New Jersey Business Magazine's "WBLF: Breaking Barriers," published for NJBIA's 12th Annual Women Business Leaders Forum.
Janice’s journey into tech was an unexpected pivot. Starting her career in Human Resources, her innate gift for technology didn't go unnoticed by the IT team, who ultimately persuaded her to change course.
"What changed my path wasn't a plan – it was the people."
That move led to senior IT roles at MetLife and Root 3 Systems, an MBA from Rider University earned in night classes, and eventually starting August eTech. The company started as an IT consulting firm and is now a managed IT and cybersecurity services company headquartered in Monmouth Junction. It's also one of the few 100% women-owned firms in the MSP/MSSP space.
In the interview, Janice talks about:
• The visibility gap: women are doing field-defining work in tech, but recognition and funding still lag
• Building an organization that lasts, drawing on Jim Collins' Good to Great
• Her advice for the next generation of women leaders: delegate, plan ahead, stay resilient, hold yourself accountable, and stay adaptable
• Why a CEO's best move is to bring in real experts and trust them to do their jobs
As August eTech celebrates its 25th anniversary, we're grateful to NJBIA, New Jersey Business Magazine, and writer Meg Fry for including her story alongside the Hon. Kim Guadagno and Adanma C. Akujieze.

Quick HIPAA gut-check for practice owners 👇
Can you name every person who has access to patient records right now? Including the front-desk hire from March and the biller who left in June?
That list — and proof you keep it current — is one of the things an auditor asks for first. It's also one of the most common gaps we find.
Not sure where yours stands? We're happy to talk it through. augustetech.com
